Have you ever caught yourself thinking one thing but doing another? The kind of moment where the action you are taking at the time seems totally at odds with the thoughts inside your head?
It’s as if your body almost has a life of its own, and is steaming on, regardless of the little voice screaming inside your head – “Stop! I want to get off NOW!”
It might happen to you at work, when you have a presentation to do, or you get a call that demands that your body “show up” – to perform, be accountable, apologise or explain. But inside, your fearful, frustrated mind is already running away, desperately wishing it was some place else.
If you are trying to lose weight then you will know how it feels to eat one chocolate biscuit after another, despising yourself the entire time, but feeling you have no control over what your body is doing.
Wouldn’t it be more enjoyable, more fulfilling, more FUN to be in the kind of place where your thoughts inside your head actually match the stuff you are doing every day? The kind of life where “showing up” is the best part? Where you are totally aligned inside with what you are doing on the outside?
If you are feeling fearful or frustrated, it is actually a blessing. It’s a call to action from the “real you” who is trying to get you to wake up and start living the life you really want to lead.
And the most exciting part?
It’s already you.
You are already the “real” you. It’s inside you right now. You don’t have to work towards it, or cross your fingers and just hope that you’ll win the lottery so you can “do what you really want to do”. Most of the time, you don’t need ANY money to do what you really want to do. You just need to strip away all of the layers of excuses and denial and illusions to allow the real you to breathe. To shine. To express itself with authenticity and passion.
This is how you feel when you are aligned with the real you. Passionate. Inspired. Confident. Magnetic. Peaceful.
Life suddenly becomes easier. Less stressful. Less scary. And way more fun.
The people around you will sniff it out too, and be drawn to you, and excited to be around you. You see, we are attracted to people in real alignment with their true selves because deep down, we all want to feel the same way.
The real you is there, waiting to be let loose on the world like a child who cares nothing about limitations, who is not afraid to get it wrong.
How well do you know “the real you”? Are you ready to set it free?

Thank you – you’ve pinpointed something many people struggle with when learning to be mindful or in the “now”. Being fully engaged, aligned, congruent, … or as I heard someone say many years ago on an old audio cassette, that really stuck in my head, “be where you’re at!” – is possibly the single most powerful “skill” to start making real change in life. When you live from that place of “one-ness” – life is easier, joy follows you everywhere, and people and events just start happening – by magic it seems (and it is!)
It is all about choices. Everyone has roadblocks or issues that are stopping them from setting the real self free. It is never impossible, but most times people are not willing to risk the consequences of the choices required to fulfill the dream. The adventurer who’s wife will leave him if he sells their Manhattan apartment and quits his 6 figure job to travel the world, or the 50 yr old executive who jumps off the corporate ladder to become a pastry chef. Not impossible, just they choose not to follow the passion because they are not comfortable with the transition between the apparent current success and what they might be. It can be downright scary. So many choose the status quo until some life event triggers them to act.
